Team Mom
Role & Responsibilities
The Team Mom is one of the most important jobs in youth baseball. A good Team Mom helps make things much easier on the Coaches - and the team typically runs more smoothly, with better team spirit and better team results.
The Team Mom works collaboratively with the head coach and helps to manage and organize team activities during the season. MPLL relies on its Team Moms for a number of duties, including:
Sending out messages regarding game and practice schedules
Maintaining order in the dugout
Organizing a snack schedule
Collecting and tracking team money
Taking photos to share on MPLL IG
Coordinating miscellaneous items with coaches and players
Organizing team parties
Finding team sponsors
Ordering team banners
Having a Team Mom on the team allows the Coach to concentrate on coaching the players and team development.
The information below is simply a guide, not a requirement.
Communication with Parents
Often the MPLL Board will communicate important dates and/or events, information, participation needs, expectations to the Team Moms so that they can then communicate those things to the players and parents on their team.
Start by sending out a “Hey I’m Team Mom” group text as soon as you can. You will want to always keep parents informed of what’s going on. If the Coach hasn’t done so already, be sure to let them know when practices are planned, how early they need to show up before the game, etc.
Team Roster
Team Moms are provided with a contact list of all players and parents including email addresses and phone numbers, as well as emergency contact information. It’s important to keep this information handy at all times, in the event of an emergency.
Team Volunteer List
Parents who did not pay the $50 volunteer buy-out fee at registration will be needed for weekly duties, especially for games hosted at home. Our Snack Bar Manager will work with all Team Moms to make sure that every position is filled. If parents cannot fulfill their obligation, it is their responsibility to find a replacement.
Team Snacks
Traditionally, one player is assigned team snacks for each game of the season. Team Moms work to assign one family per game for team snacks and send out a couple of reminders each week leading up to the game. We recommend giving out a suggested snack list to all parents and it is always best to avoid any nut items due to potential allergies.
End of the Season Banquet (optional)
At the end of each season, teams may choose to have an end of the year celebration, whether that be a potluck-style event, or a trip to the local pizza parlor. The Team Mom works with the team parents to coordinate the event, if they choose to do so.
Coaches Gifts (optional)
Some teams may choose to get some form of gift for the coaches to show their appreciation at the end of the season. Some gifts can be personal items, like signed baseballs from the team or gift certificates to a store or restaurant. Team Moms should poll the parents and decide whether or not to purchase a gift and, if so, what to get, as well as collect money to purchase the gift.
If you are interested in being a Team Mom for your child’s team, please register as a volunteer through the registration portal - the same one used to register your player.
